Streamer Guide

Welcome, streamers, video content creators, and let's-players of all stripes! If you'd like to play Laugh Track for your audience, here are some tips and tricks that may help you.

Up front, let's be clear that we have no restrictions on creating let's play content of this game. Our music will not result in DMCA strikes, and we have no concerns about 'spoiling' the story for people by showing off big plot reveals and late-game content. There's no 'wrong' way to play it and we want you to come at this in whatever manner you're comfy with.

Content Warnings

This game is intended for a mature audience that's comfortable with some level of political discussion, dealing with bigotry and other heavy real-world social issues. The "horror" aspect of the game doesn't stem from graphic nudity, gore, or jumpscares; it's the cruel horror we face in everyday reality. We recommend you provide a link to our content warnings to your audience, so they can review as needed based on their comfort levels. The game itself will provide the URL on-screen when you first start playing as well.

Facecam Placement

We recommend your facecam be placed in the lower left or lower right position. The upper left frequently has pop-up indicators.

Because characters move around the screen and their dialogue bubbles follow them you may occasionally overlap the text. If you're electing to read aloud, this shouldn't be a problem; alternatively, you can shrink the game to avoid a great deal of overlap.

Settings

In the options menu, you can select your font -- by default it uses cartoony fonts, but if you find it hard to read, you can switch to a basic sans-serif font. For maximum accessibility, you can use the OpenDyslexia font, although some font-related sight gags may not land as well.

Depending on your streaming setup you may find the music to be too loud, particularly during voiced scenes. You can turn down various sound elements independently in the options menu -- music, sound effects, voice, and the chat gibberish.

Some scenes have fully voiced dialogue, but most use a "gibberish" language to act as filler before audience laughter or applause plays. If you find the gibberish annoying or that it interferes with your reading aloud, you can turn down the volume or change it to a simple retro beeping noise instead in the options menu.

Controls

At any time, you can use your mouse wheel to scroll back and forth in time and change decisions. This can allow you to back up if you aren't happy with a choice.

You can save at any time using the save icon in the corner of the screen, or by hitting the Escape key to bring up the menu. This can be done even during choices.

If you'd like to take a screenshot, use the S key.

Planning Your Playthrough

No spoilers, don't worry! But we should explain the basic structure of the game...

It's not possible to "lose" the game. You may not get the ending you want, but you'll always get all the way through the game and to an ending -- there are no premature game overs, even picking options that look risky.

The two things that drive your ending are your relationship to characters, and the ratings...

For relationships, whoever has the highest relationship with Juno will be the focus character for the final episode. In addition, if you want it to be a romantic ending, you need to tell the game you want romance -- during the tutorial episode and any "Very Special Episodes," you'll be asked if you want to start a romance. Don't push these opportunities aside assuming you'll get more later!

For the ratings, each episode has a rating attached to it based on how many high or low ratings decisions you made. If most were high (lit light bulbs), it's a high ratings episode. If most were low (broken light bulbs) it's a low ratings episode.

You have eight episodes total in a playthrough, so you can aim for a high ratings finish, low ratings finish, or the trickier best-of-both-worlds high-and-low balanced finish.
